The National Council of Catholic Women Leadership Training and Development Team is coming to Peoria for a day of learning, prayer and formation. This event is for women all across the state of Illinois! Leadership does not come with a title or position; it is in our actions. We are all called to be servant leaders in our families, in our parishes, and in our communities. This event will be held in Peoria on Saturday June 23. Early Bird Registration is $25 by May 15. Further details will be forthcoming.
One hundred twenty-five meals were provided on Saturday, January 20. We are so grateful to the volunteers who help set up and clean up, who help prep and serve the meals, and who deliver meals to the homeless and homebound. We would not be able to offer the quality of food if it were not for the generous donations of Cub Foods and the members of St Joseph and St Mary churches. If we do have any food left, which is very seldom, we donate it to the Sleezer Home for Youth. Your service and donations of food, clothing, and toiletries make a difference in so many lives in our community. God Bless all of you and we ask that you continue to pray for those we serve. ~The Society of St Vincent de Paul.
I just got this email this morning from Coleen Fenn. If anybody could be generous enough to help these lovely ladies. There is a lot more than the boiler that needs to be fixed at the convent. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Good morning. This recent frigid weather has been a nuisance for many of us, but our beautiful blue nuns have been especially affected. The boiler which heats their convent has died and no repair can bring it back to life. They have worked out a deal with an area supplier to have a new boiler installed, but the cost is close to $16,000. As you may or may not know, these wonderful women are not assisted by the diocese. They make their living just like all of us, working in our communities. This expense has put a terrible strain on their already meager budget. If you can assist monetarily or through prayer, this would be greatly appreciated. If you would like to contribute and assist them to pay this bill, please send your check to; IHM Sisters 1209 S. Walnut Ave Freeport Ill 61032. Please share this information with everyone you know. Lets show them that we appreciate their presence in our community.
God Bless You.
One reading from the Gospels that always makes me stop and think for a moment is Luke 12:35-37. It states, “Be dressed in readiness, and keep your lamps alight and be like men who are waiting for their master when he returns from the wedding feast, so that they may immediately open the door to him when he comes and knocks. Blessed are those slaves whom the master shall find on the alert when he comes; truly I say to you, that he will gird himself to serve, and have them recline at the table, and will come up and wait on them.” Continue reading
Be Bold, Be Catholic will be doing a pew survey next weekend. The purpose of the survey is to help the community of St Joseph and St Mary help serve you and others better. We want the answers to be well thought through so we can make quality decisions. We would not want to make changes that really would not benefit the community. We want your time in answering these questions to be time well worth it. We have such a diversity of people with a diversity of needs that we have not yet been aware of. Please help us be aware of your needs. At the same time, are you willing to help others fulfill their needs? We will need help in serving the people of God. It takes hands, feet, heads and hearts to help Jesus do His work here in Freeport. The plan will be to see what we can do and get up and running the easiest or quickest, and then develop a plan to see what we can do for everything else.
Because we do not want to waste your time or ours, I will be giving you the questions here in this article so you have time to think about what would be truly helpful. Take it home and mull over it for a while, bring it to adoration or pray the rosary about it. The questions we have are as follows: Continue reading
