Judges Block Little Sisters’ Religious Exemption From Contraception Mandate

PHILADELPHIA — Judges in California and Pennsylvania have issued injunctions against a Trump administration rule that would allow the Little Sisters of the Poor and similar groups to claim a religious exemption against the Department of Health and Human Services’ so-called contraception mandate.
Judge Haywood Gilliam of the U.S. District Court for Northern California issued a preliminary injunction Jan. 13 that affects 13 states plus the District of Columbia in the case State of California v. HHS. Gillam declined to issue the nationwide injunction requested by the plaintiffs, the attorneys general of several states, led by California. …

Confirmation Students Display Their Saint Projects

Thank you to all Parents, Sponsors, Catechists, Parishioners & Fr. Barr for coming out to support the Confirmation Students on their Saint Projects. The Students did a great job on all their research and presenting of their Saints. Many were asked questions on how and why they chose that particular Saint. Confirmation this year will be Wednesday, January 23, 2019, at 5:30pm at St Mary Church. A special thanks to all that provided the treats. Everyone enjoyed them.

Roe v. Wade Anniversary

January 22 marks the 46th anniversary of the decisions of Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton. It is most unfortunate that our justices made the decisions they made, opening the door for more than sixty million babies being killed from abortions in the US alone since that time. Domingo del Bautismo del Señor ciclo C 2019

Su aparición ante los hombres y mujeres de su época para dar comienzo a los que tradicionalmente se ha llamado su “ministerio público”. Un año más, y casi sin darnos cuenta, ha llegado y se ha ido la Navidad. El salto que da la liturgia en este domingo es muy grande, aunque se nos diga que todavía no se ha cerrado el ciclo navideño. Dejamos al Jesús-Niño y pasamos al Jesús-adulto. No es fácil para nadie este cambio de niño a adulto. Supone dejar a un lado las seguridades y lanzarse a la aventura de la confianza en el Padre y de la misión encomendada. Esto es lo que le ocurrió a Jesús cuando recibió el bautismo de manos de Juan. Knights of Columbus Gifts Checks

Freeport Knights of Columbus got together on December 12 for their annual Potluck Christmas dinner. The KC’s distributed checks from the Tootsie Roll drive in September to Freeport Special Olympics, represented by Anne Schulz, Freeport Park District; Malcom Eaton, Brian Babcock, Marketing; and Presence St. Vincent, Diane Cushman. Fun was had by all and we are looking forward to next year’s fundraiser. Nils Sandstrom and Todd McKenna represented the Knights of Columbus.
