Venerable Fulton Sheen’s Beatification Postponed

PEORIA, Ill. — The scheduled beatification of Venerable Servant of God Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen has been postponed after several U.S. bishops asked that the cause be given more time for examination. The Diocese of Peoria announced the delay on Dec. 3.
Archbishop Sheen’s beatification was set to take place on Dec. 21.
“With deep regret, Bishop Daniel Jenky, C.S.C, Bishop of Peoria, announces that he has been informed by the Holy See that the beatification of Fulton Sheen will be postponed,” said the press release from the diocese.
The diocese originally received word from the Vatican on Nov. 18 that the beatification had been approved to take place…

Please bring your donations to church by Sunday, December 15.

Delivery of the baskets to those who signed up will be
Saturday, December 21, from 10:00am until completed. We will deliver from the Holy Family Community Center.
Volunteer delivery drivers are needed.

FACC Christmas Gifts

I had gotten a letter from Dean Wright about the Christmas gifts. FACC needs two more families taken care of for Christmas. They are looking for Christmas gifts. I hope to inspire St Mary’s parishioners to buy gifts for the family of five and St Joseph parishioners for a family of seven. If you are interested, we have a list of clothes and odds and ends the children want. The gifts are not to exceed $20. They are for children under 18 years of age and senior citizens over 65. I would really appreciate you helping me make a difference in the lives of the people right here in town. God Bless you! – Fr Barr

JMJ: Consecrating the Home to the Holy Family

Archbishop Fulton Sheen was known to always write JMJ, meaning, Jesus, Mary and Joseph. He had a great love for Jesus, Mary and Joseph. I have not read up on how he acquired his love for them, yet it does not take much to see it.
It does not take much to see why either. Together they make up what we know to be the “Holy Family.” The first J is for Jesus. Jesus is the one human that is also divine. Jesus is God with us. In the context of the family, we would first think of Jesus as a child. Jesus comes to us first as a child. He comes not as someone to judge, but to be held. This God of ours came as somebody vulnerable so that we may experience His love. It is hard to imagine how the all-powerful God chose to come to us in such a fashion. This thinking is far from human thinking. Yet, this is the reality. God has so loved the world, and each and every one of us, that He sent His only begotten Son. Domingo I adviento ciclo A 2019
