Many people will ask me why there are so many rules and regulations in the Catholic Church. Some people assume some things are rules. Most people think Ash Wednesday is a holy day of obligation, but it is not. Some people think praying the rosary every day is a rule of the church. It is something we promote, but it is not a rule. In fact, there are a lot of traditions that we as Catholics do that are not rules. We find that they help us in faith.
Most rules are there to help us in faith too. Requiring everybody to go to Mass on weekends and going to confession at least once a year are great examples of faith building regulations. At times it may not feel like it, but sometimes we need that nudge to remind us of something better. Our faith in Jesus. Continue reading “Because Our Children Are Worth It”
Domingo XXXI tiempo ordinario ciclo C 2019
Keeping the Faith
We are asking all Catholics in Stephenson County to join together with us, The Knights of Columbus of Stephenson County, on Facebook. Only through unification can all Catholic men, women and children join together to build and strengthen our church and beliefs.
Joining with us provides a platform where you can see how we are impacting our community at each council, each church and school. We are asking you to help make our Catholic Family strong and it only takes two minutes to like and follow us on The Knights of Columbus of Stephenson County Facebook page.
We are inviting you as Catholics to post what you do for volunteering: births, to baptisms, and marriages, from church and school events to information which impacts Catholics in our community. Our strength comes from our God, our Church, our Catholic families, our Catholic community, and sharing what we do, as Catholics in action.

Men are accustomed to form plans, and then afflict themselves when these fail. O, how much more legitimate would their affliction be if it arose from a sense of their own sinfulness!
St Mary’s All Saints Day & All Soul’s Day
Due to the way the calendar dates for All Saints Day and All Soul’s Day fall this year, St Mary’s will be observing these special days as follows:
St Mary’s will have an All Saint’s Day Mass on Friday,
November 1, at 5:00pm.
At the 8:00am Mass on Sunday, November 3, we will celebrate the lives of those who have died this past year, and also have candles lit for those who have paid for candles for their family members.
If you wish to purchase candles for the November 3 celebration for the deceased members at St Mary’s, be sure to have your money into the office by October 20. St Mary’s will purchase the candles for members who have died this past year.
Thank you for your understanding.

Symbolism in the Church #31
All around the church are the sunlit stained glass windows, gracefully reaching for the sky. High up on the stained glass windows are round images. There are twenty-one of them, with various images, adorning the walls and the pews they shine on.
The round windows symbolize the infinite God. God is the only being that was neither created, nor can be destroyed. He is the being that gave existence to all other things that have existence. He is also the being that sustains everything in existence. He provides us with continued existence until our very physical ends. He gives us food to eat, water to drink, and all the things we need throughout our life. He gives us every breath we take and the ability for our hearts to beat. For us as humans, He is the one who can ensure our continued existence after our physical death in this world. God has no end. He has the ability to not only sustain us in this life, but to sustain us for the rest of time and beyond. He is the one who has the last say on where we will be in our eternity.
