The St Joseph Marian Society will meet at 7:00pm in Berg Hall on Thursday, October 11. A member of the Freeport Police Department will discuss the latest scams that are prevalent in the Freeport area. We will also learn the procedures to take if we fear our identity has been stolen or if we are notified that our credit card information has been compromised. All ladies of St Joseph and St Mary parishes are invited to attend this important meeting. Hostesses for the evening are: Barbara Feiner, Ruth Geary, Helen Toelle and Dolores Weinand.
A representative of the Office of Catholic Cemeteries will host an informative meeting on Tuesday, October 17, at 2:30pm, in the O’Neill Center at St Thomas Aquinas Church in Freeport, IL. Parishioners of all three Freeport parishes as well as nearby parishes are invited and encouraged to attend. Carol Giambalvo, director of cemeteries, will present a history of the Office of Catholic Cemeteries, its responsibilities as operator of the Diocesan Catholic Cemeteries, management and financing of cemetery operations, and cemetery services and products. She will also discuss the Cemetery Oversight Act, which changed certain cemetery procedures and mandated maps, invoicing procedures, and cemetery authorities. Additional current and future topics include installation of military flagpoles this fall, the need to update records and maps, new area to be developed in Calvary Cemetery, possible cremation area at St Joseph Cemetery, and maintenance issues such as repair of roads, spraying for weeds, adding litter barrels and more. Also, rules and regulations regarding plantings and trimmings of evergreens, use of shepherd hooks, explanation of types of flower vases permitted and proximity to gravestones. A question and answer period will follow the presentation.
We look forward to the Mass, open meeting and Adoration tonight as we begin to renew our parishes to fulfill the mission Jesus has given us; to bring others closer to Jesus our Lord and Savior. All parishioners are invited this evening. We will begin with Mass (5:30pm), asking Jesus to send the Holy Spirit upon us to discern God’s holy will for us and the courage to do His will. Then we will have the open meeting (About 6:15pm) with a presentation and discussion. After the meeting we will have adoration of the Blessed Sacrament till 8:30pm in further discernment and asking Jesus to be with us as we bring others closer to Jesus.

The St. Joseph Parish Council will meet on Wednesday Sept. 10 at 4:30pm in Richter Hall. You are cordially invited to be St. Mary’sguests at the Taste of St. Mary’s Potluck dinner. Dishes featured in the new cookbook will be served.
