There is an appropriate way in which God wants us to share His love for each other, based on the nature of our relationships. Mothers are to love their children in a way that is appropriate for mothers to love their chidren. Priests need to love their people in a way that is appropriate to the way God calls them to love, with chastity. Their is an appropriate way in which men are called to love men. Men are indeed called to love each other; God demands it! But this love is called to be chaste and ccording to God’s plan. …
But how do we get healed of inappropriate love. Yes, inappropriate love wounds us, even when it is wanted. We need to be healed. So where can healing be found? We find it being loved appropriately. This means that we are loved the way God plans to love us. It gives us our dignity. Selfish “love” strips us of our dignity. Selfless Love restoers our dignity. Since our dignity is restored through authentic love, it brings freedom, peace, joy and we see the value of others as they are.
How is it that there is an inappropriateness to marital love? Sometimes it is inappropriate to express love or certain expressions of love; for instance when in public or before children. Sometimes in illness, the appropriate expression of love calls for taking care of the other and not forcing the marital act.
If we do not know how to express love according to God’s plan, we cannot be a light to the world. We cannot become the community God plans for us to be if we do not know how to express the love of God in an Appropriate way. Are you friuuitful? Is your life fruitful? Appropriate love is what makes us fruitful. It gives us a sence of fruitfulness and makes us spiritually fruitful. It helps us become a community that helps each other get to heaven. Then when it comes to the end of our life here on earth, we can look forward to seeing the faces of those who have gone before us and finnally rejoice in the true love of Jesus for all eternity.
