We wish to thank all of the volunteers who came out on a blustery Saturday to help prepare and serve our Thanksgiving meal on November 18. Also, many thanks to the men who delivered meals to the homebound and to the homeless. We provided 112 individual meals and 38 persons came back for a second plate, making a total of 150 meals. The many donations of warm winter items was greatly appreciated by the recipients. We will serve a Christmas ham dinner on Saturday, December 16. We are in need of fresh fruit and cookies as well as personal products (shampoo, body lotion, liquid soap, and deodorant). If you can provide any of these items, please contact Mary Koppi at 815-232-4687. Thank you for your continued generous support of our ministry to feed the hungry and we wish you and yours a Blessed Christmas Season. ~The Society of St Vincent de Paul

Jesus is the reason for the Season! Where would we be if it were not for Him!? – The novena begins Thursday, November 30, on St. Andrew’s Feast Day. It is piously believed that whoever recites the below prayer fifteen times a day from the feast of St. Andrew (Nov. 30th) until Christmas, will obtain what is asked. Thank you Jesus for becoming one of us!

HAIL and blessed be the hour and moment in which the Son of God was born of the most pure Virgin Mary, at midnight, in Bethlehem, in piercing cold. In that hour vouchsafe, O my God!, to hear my prayer and grant my desires, through the merits of Our Savior Jesus Christ, and of His Blessed Mother. Amen.

The Bible: Gospel of John 1

The Gospel of John is written differently. It has twenty-one chapters that are steeped in theology. John tells the story, but with a heavy emphasis on Jesus’ Divinity. John seems to go off into another world, and yet gives a lot of detail that the other gospels do not catch. This gospel is very symbolic and raises the soul to great heights without the reader really fully understanding what they read. Continue reading

Continue reading

Why Is There Hell? What You Should Know About It!

(This Lighthouse cd can be found on the cd rack)
In this moving study on hell, Dr. Scott Hahn shares what scripture teaches about why hell is necessary. What it is like? Who goes there? How can you stay out forever? He explains why Lucifer refused to serve and then responds from a scriptural perspective to the most seductive modern errors about hell. Included are two bonus excerpts from Dr. Hahn’s talk, The Healing Power of Confession.
Parishioner Comments This is a great CD! It gives the theological basis for hell. For me, it also highlighted the need for continued conversion throughout life. Chad – St. Michael, MN
This scriptural approach to the reasons for hell is challenging and enlightening. It put the love of God in our hearts, not fear. Grass Roots Prayer Group – NY
