Alleluia! He is risen! What good news it is that Jesus has defeated suffering, death, shame and any mud that people may throw at us. The Devil wants to bind us with shame. He is the one who tempts us and tries all his trickery to deceive us and then turns around and shames us for the evil done.

After the fall of Adam and Eve, suffering became the tool of the Devil to control us. It is like some who think that they must avoid suffering at all costs. Suffering is a type of “bad energy” that simply cannot be overcome and so must be avoided. They do not see any purpose of suffering and so may believe that one should just die immediately rather than suffer even a little. Death itself to some seems to be an evil, but might be better than suffering. They might judge one’s life by the success or lack of suffering. When we must run away from such bad energy, the bad energy controls us and we become bound by what is evil. We miss the deeper things of life in the soul that can help them overcome suffering because Jesus has risen from the dead.

Jesus has truly conquered suffering, death, shame or any bad name anybody can give us. Jesus was given a bad name by the lies He was accused of; His apostles were shamed into abandoning Him; Jesus was made to suffer terribly so that He may die a most painful death. He went through what we go through, so that what He goes through, the Resurrection and therefore His glory, we may go through. We get to rise above all bad or negative energy. We no longer have to run away from the evil done to us. When we learn to embrace it and offer it in union with Jesus on the cross, the grace of the cross overcomes the evil of suffering. Moreover, the grace of the cross turns suffering into grace as it did when Jesus died on the cross for us. So now, suffering no longer has power over us. The curse on Adam and Eve (Gen 3:14-16) now becomes a source of grace. The tree that was once death to us is now the tree that gives life. The tree that once brought evil now brings goodness. Jesus was mounted on a piece of dead wood that was planted into the ground and that cross of Christ now gives us life!

Yes! Jesus indeed conquers all evil because He is risen! He has set us free!

We are two Catholic Churches close to downtown Freeport, IL. Our communities are over 150 years old and have been dedicated to our lord Jesus Christ since our inception. We believe in God the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was concieved by the Holy Spirit, born of ythe Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilot, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the father almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.
