SUNDAY, JUNE 13, 2016 PRESS RELEASE Bishop Malloy asks for prayers to end violence and terrorism Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Rockford, David J. Malloy, issued a statement in reaction to the horrific shooting in Orlando, Florida on June 12. STATEMENT FROM BISHOP DAVID MALLOY: I ask all people to join with Archbishop Kurtz, president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops who said that “Waking up to the unspeakable violence in Orlando reminds us of how precious human life is. Our prayers are with the victims, their families and all those affected by this terrible act. The merciful love of Christ calls us to solidarity with the suffering and to ever greater resolve in protecting the life and dignity of every person.” As Bishop of Rockford I ask all Catholics as they attend Mass or spend time in silent prayer to remember all those affected by violence and terrorism and to pray vigorously for its end.
We are two Catholic Churches close to downtown Freeport, IL. Our communities are over 150 years old and have been dedicated to our lord Jesus Christ since our inception.
We believe in God the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was concieved by the Holy Spirit, born of ythe Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilot, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the father almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.
