Here is a brief story of a great martyr. I was at the church he served at the time of his death and place of burial. Believe it or not, that was the place that sticks out in my mind the most. I could sense a holy presence there.

Poland was great, but it is great to be back. As a priest, I find it hard to be away from parish life. It is what I was ordained for. It will be a while before I go on vacation again. There were many things to see and places to go in Poland. As in all countries in Europe, there is a lot of history there.
One of the places that struck me was the Church and burial-place of Fr Jerzy Popieƚuszko. His first name is pronounced Yerze. Unless you are polish, do not even try to pronounce the last name. Fr Jerzy was born in 1947 in Poland. He was a good and holy priest. He spoke out against the communist regime that Stalin established in Poland. Poland was behind the “Iron Curtain” of communism till 1989. I did not think about it too much. As Americans, it is hard to imagine what it would be like to be under such rule. Twenty years have gone by in Poland, and they have not forgotten. They fought long and hard to gain their freedom. It took many generations to establish themselves and they continue in this process. The feast day for the Holy Souls in Purgatory started yesterday. The holy day is on November 2 (friday of next week). This is a great day and preparation time to pray for our loved ones who have passed before us. Please take advantage of these prayers.
Prayer to Our Suffering Savior for the Holy Souls in Purgatory
O most sweet Jesus, through the bloody sweat which Thou didst suffer in the Garden of Gethsemane, have mercy on these Blessed Souls. Have mercy on them.
R. Have mercy on them, O Lord
All Saints day is a Holy Day of Obligation. On November 1, 2012. There will be Mass available 8am at St Joseph Church, 5:30pm at St Mary church and 7pm at St Mary church in spanish. If you do not make it, confessions will be available that Saturday during morning adoration till 9:30am and before the Saturday evening masses.
